Swim Test

BEAVER DAM SWIMMING CLUB SWIM TEST POLICY

 

To promote safety for all guests, Beaver Dam Swimming Club requires all individuals ages 13 and older to complete a swim test before entering the quarry without a life jacket.  Ages 4 - 12 are required to wear a life jackets in the quarry and under 4 years of age are not permitted in the quarry.

 

Swim Test Requirements

The swim test consists of two parts:

 

  1. Swim Assessment
    The participant must swim 100 yards continuously using either freestyle or breaststroke.

    • Swimming on the back or side is not permitted.

    • The participant may not stop or hold onto any surface during the swim.

  2. Treading Water Assessment
    The participant must tread water for one (1) minute while remaining vertical.

    • Floating is not permitted.

    • The participant must not submerge their mouth, nose, ears, or eyes at any time during the test.

 

 

Passing the Swim Test

Completion of the swim test does not automatically constitute a passing result. Beaver Dam Swimming Club staff will evaluate each participant’s strength, endurance, and overall water competency. Passing status is determined at the sole discretion of lifeguards and staff.

 

Life Jacket Requirement

 

  • Any individual who does not pass the swim test is required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket while in the quarry at all times.

  • Individuals who pass the swim test may access the quarry without a life jacket; however, staff and lifeguards reserve the right to require any individual to wear a life jacket at any time, regardless of prior test results.

Enforcement

Failure to comply with this policy may result in removal from the water or facility.

 

Acknowledgment

By participating in aquatic activities at Beaver Dam Swimming Club, all guests agree to comply with this Swim Test Policy and any directions given by staff.
